Kelley Barnett is the flutist with ENSEMBLE MISE-EN, a new music collective based in Brooklyn, New York. The ensemble promotes large-scale, dynamic performances of contemporary music featuring the works of established and budding composers, preforming works by Bent Sørensen, Wolfgang Mitterer, Hans Abrahamsen, Sofia Gubaidulina, Lukas Ligeti and more. Kelley’s passion for music lies in forwarding musical composition, not only as a performer but also as a composer. As a composer, Barnett dabbles in electronically manipulated sound and noise sound worlds. she premiered her first work on February 21st, 2015 titled Bolt from the Blue, for flute and tape.
Kelley graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance in 2015 studying with Dr. Tara O’Connor. She received her Bachelors in 2011 and first Masters in 2013 from Lynn University Conservatory of Music, studying with Jeffrey Khaner and Renee Siebert. Kelley has performed with notable groups such as Tenth Intervention, ShoutHouse, The Secret Opera, and Manhattan School’s contemporary ensemble, Tactus; as well as cofounded the Lynn University New Music Ensemble. She has participated in Cortona Sessions for New Music, and the 2012 Vanguard Contemporary Music Festival. In addition Ms. Barnett has performed with the New York Sinfonietta, Symphony of the Americas, and the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra.
When Kelley is not performing, she has a healthy private studio with students of all ages. She is also an avid coffee lover and co-owns Kuro Kirin Espresso and Coffee in NYC. The connections she makes while teaching and in the coffee community are invaluable to her.
