This concert will include 2 world premieres for contrabass flute by Martin Q. Larsson and Robert Karpay, as well as works by Seong Ae Kim, Sungji Hong, Emily Praetorius, and David Bennett Thomas.

This past year, I had the pleasure of working with Amanda Turner Pohan and Charlie Looker to create this incredible Chamber Opera, Alexa Echoes. Alexa Echoes recasts the relationship between cultural movements and commercial technologies through the history of women’s devocalization and disembodiment. It begins with mythical Greek figures, such as Echo, and leads up to Amazon’s smart speaker and digital voice-based assistant, Alexa. The film will be released on EMPAC’s website on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 5PM (EST).

NEW MUSIC MARATON

The MISE-EN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018 culminates in a new music marathon: ensemble mise-en will perform a series of concerts featuring the works of 15 contemporary composers spanning 11 countries, including 14 premieres.

ENSEMBLE MISE-EN presents flutist, Kelley Barnett, in a continuation of the Solo Concert Series. Kelley will explore the interplay of voice and flute with works from Salvatore Sciarrino, Reza Vali, Nathaniel Haering, and premieres by Jonathan Favero and Max Grafe.
